Queens Park Rangers striker Harry Redknapp has switched attention back to striker Jermain Defoe this summer which has surprised us at the Transfer Tavern, as reported by the Daily Star.
QPR missed out on Colombian striker Duvan Zapata this week after the forward edged closer to a move to Napoli.
Zapata passed a medical with Rangers earlier this week but would rather play Champions League football instead of Championship football.
West Ham were also in for Zapata and had a bid accepted only to fail in their attempt to get a work permit for the sought after hitman.
Redknapp has now returned to his original target of Defoe and is hoping to come to an agreement with his former club Tottenham to take the England man across London to Loftus Road.
Defoe may find his first team chances limited this season with new boy Roberto Soldado set to lead the line and with Andre Villas-Boas keen to add another forward to his squad before the close of the transfer window next month.
The England man had an indifferent season last time out and summer move may be the best option for him with it being a World Cup season and places in the national squad are very much up for grabs.
Redknapp is still frustrated over missing out on Zapata though.
“He is a player we talked about and feel has a big future,” Redknapp said on Zapata.
“He could be a big star, but we’re looking at this year and a player who can come do a job and get us out of this league.
“He is one we’d look at in a year or two.”
