There are interested faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Footylatest that Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has called for a new contract to be given to his star player Gareth Bale.
There has been much speculation over Bale’s future and not only has the player been linked to Real Madrid but also Manchester United who are keen admirers of the forward.
Spurs have been doing their utmost to keep Bale at the club and their star man is set to be offered a mega deal to keep him at White Hart Lane. Andre Villas-Boas claimed that: “It would be good for him (to get a new contract) and he deserves it for the season he has had. Obviously we could put to bed every single speculation that’s coming out and it would be an excellent reward for what he has achieved this season.”
The manager also moved to reassure fans that he would not allow the sale of Bale and felt that the board were fully behind him in keeping the player at the club.
Spurs are currently locked in a battle with North London rivals Arsenal for the final Champions League spot after Frank Lampard effectively secured the third placed spot for Chelsea with his record breaking goal against Aston Villa. Should Spurs miss out on the top four, speculation over Bale’s future will increase meaning it is little shock that AVB wants Bale to be tied down as quickly as possible.
