Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs interested in signing Vedat Muriqi from Fenerbahce

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi this summer.

According to Sabah, as per Sport Witness, the Turkish club are looking to sell the forward in the summer, amid interest from Tottenham as well as Napoli and Lazio. The Turkish outlet claimed that Fenerbahce are hoping to sell him to the highest bidder, as everything hinges on whether or not he will be sold when the transfer window opens.

The Yellow Canaries are restricted by a combination of FFP and the Turkish Football Federation’s regulations. As a result, they value the Kosovan at €20m (£18m) and will accept any bid from the interested parties if they match their valuation.

Spurs could face stiff competition from the Serie A duo, although the asking price should be more than affordable even in the current climate.

It is no secret that Tottenham desperately need to sign a backup striker for Harry Kane, as the team struggled to score goals during his lengthy absence after he was injured in a 1-0 loss at Southampton.

The Lilywhites have also been linked to Victor Osimhen, although the Lille star looks set to leave for Napoli.

Muriqi has been touted to move to north London for a number of months. The 26-year-old Kosovo international has been in impressive form in his debut season at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, scoring 15 goals and supplying five assists in the Super Lig so far.

Mourinho has deployed both Didier Drogba and Diego Costa in the past to great effect, with the two strikers using their physical attributes to dominate defences during his time in charge of Chelsea. The Kosovan is cut from a similar cloth, as WhoScored has listed aerial duels as one of the strengths of his playing style.

However, he is so much more than just a blunt instrument, as he has shown he can create chances for his teammates as well.

Although he has a powerful physique, he is not just a battering ram, as he sometimes plays as a wide option for his country, even though he leads the front line from the central position more often than not for the Yellow and Navy Blues.

His ability to terrorise opposition defences gives him an edge over other candidates like Osimhen and Arkadiusz Milik, while his versatility is surely an added bonus.

As it stands, Spurs need to bolster their centre-forward options, and Muriqi certainly fits the mould of the player that the Portuguese is seeking, as he should be able to provide suitable cover for Kane at a reasonable price. He could also play alongside the Englishman to add to Mourinho’s list of attacking options.

Moreover, Muriqi shares physical similarities to the former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker as previously mentioned, so he could turn out to be Mourinho’s next Drogba in north London.
