According to an update courtesy of Sky Sports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, soon-to-be Tottenham star Gareth Bale has been ‘in call’ with manager Jose Mourinho regarding his impending move from Real Madrid over the last few days, with an announcement expected shortly.
How excited are you for Gareth Bale's stunning return?
Both Sergio Reguilon and Bale have reportedly passed medicals as the two players fly to England in order to finalise their headline-grabbing moves, and manager Mourinho is said to have played a big part in the negotiations.
Despite declining to comment on the Welsh superstar in press conferences, Tottenham’s manager has apparently been in full contact with Bale over what is, arguably, the most sensational summer transfer of this window.
Spurs were previously tipped to be prioritising a striker as back-up to Harry Kane, along with a centre-half (Romano), but Bale’s arrival has undoubtedly turned many heads.
Reports had dripped in from various sections of the media before his move, with The Telegraph first reporting that Madrid were prepared to pay 50% of Bale’s eye-watering £600,000-per-week wages.
Mundo Deportivo then claimed that a permanent fee for the attacker would hover around the £18m mark – arguably a reasonable expense given Bale’s pedigree and his status as an established 83-cap international.
The whispers were promptly followed by huge tips that Bale was in fact on his way back to England, and now journalist Romano has hinted that Mourinho could’ve played a heavy role in that happening.
Described as a ‘diamond’ by fellow Spurs cult hero David Ginola, the return of the 6 ft 1 icon certainly has plenty of fans excited as the 2020/21 season kicks off.
