According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham are planning one of the surprise deals of the summer in the form of a loan move for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster – with chairman Daniel Levy keen on adding a back-up to Harry Kane ahead of the 2020/2021 season.
Jose Mourinho tends to his first full campaign in charge of Spurs soon, and the Portuguese serial winner will need to strengthen his squad if he hopes to challenge for a Champions League place.
So far, Levy has been busy in the transfer market, signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in a £15 million deal alongside free agent keeper Joe Hart (Sky Sports) – both of whom Mourinho appears to believe are worthy additions.
Would Rhian Brewster be a great addition for Spurs?
Yes, only a loan, get it done
No, don't be ridiculous
The latter man seemed to surprise a few critics, but Football Insider have added that Spurs are also looking at a loan move for Reds youngster Brewster.
Described as an ‘exceptional‘ 20-year-old up-and-coming talent, Brewster netted an impressive 11 goals across his senior appearances last campaign – with each of them coming in the Championship for Swansea City (WhoScored).
Upon seeing his red hot form in England’s second tier, Levy is reportedly contemplating Brewster who could serve as a capable stand-in for Kane.
Operating with a limited transfer kitty, as detailed through the Athletic’s story on Spurs’ financial woes, it is debatable whether a move for Brewster would be worth the effort.
However, you could also make the argument he was plying his trade in a weaker all-round division.
Whether or not Spurs do swoop for Brewster remains to be seen, but there are positives and negatives to consider.
