According to an update by Sport Bild, Daniel Levy and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in midfielder Marcel Sabitzer – with the Bundesliga club having ‘repositioned itself’ should he leave for the Premier League this summer.
Sabitzer has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs in recent months, with football.london claiming back in December he is a player that Tottenham do like and have monitored before.
Sabitzer eyed by Tottenham with club braced
Adding fuel to the fire, Sport Bild now claim that the Lilywhites and Levy are in fact interested and RB Leipzig have prepared for his potential departure in the summer window by signing 20-year-old Dominik Szoboszlai – and the Hungarian would be set to play a little more defensively should Sabitzer leave.
There is little information other than that in the way of actual talks or a formal offer, but judging by his plaudits, he could be an excellent coup for Spurs during the next transfer window.
Transfer Tavern take
Fabrizio Romano, speaking to the Que Golazo Podcast last month, described him as a ‘fighter’ who would be ‘perfect for Jose Mourinho’ – but Levy may have to invest heavily during an uncertain time financially.
Bild report that RB are still standing firm on his €50million (£44million) price tag, coming after Tottenham spent considerable sums bolstering Mourinho’s squad last summer and the fact Spurs posted ‘irrecoverable’ £63.9 million losses for the year ending June 30, 2020 (Evening Standard).
It remains to be seen whether Spurs do sign the Austrian star, but it could be a coup from Levy in these tough times caused by coronavirus.
