Speaking to Football Insider, regular BBC pundit Danny Mills has claimed that if Spurs don’t manage to tie down Heung-min Son with a new deal, Jose Mourinho ‘stands to lose’ an exceptional player – with the former England international going on to claim that ‘everybody wants’ a player of that ilk in their side.
Son, who is currently Tottenham’s top scorer this campaign, most recently helping to secure a 2-0 victory at home to Man City with the game’s opener, could indeed part ways with the club, hypothetically, if Levy fails to tie him down.
Son offered new deal
The 28-year-old has been a revelation for Spurs this season, especially alongside forward partner and deadly presence Harry Kane, with the duo amassing 16 goals and 11 assists combined in the league already this season.
Son has been rumoured to be edging closer to a new contract, with a recent report from Football Insider stating that both he and the club are currently in advanced talks over a new deal.
This claim is backed up by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who wrote in the Guardian that Spurs were indeed plotting to offer the South Korea star a fresh, bumper contract.
In reaction to this news, Mills has suggested that Tottenham could lose him unless they get it done sooner rather than later.
“He’s an outstanding player, he’s absolutely magnificent the way that he plays. He’s so consistent he’s one of the first names on the team sheet,” he explained to Football Insider.
“His energy levels are superb, his fitness levels are absolutely brilliant. He’s a humble guy, he’s the model pro. Everybody wants a Son in your team for what he offers.
“I’m pretty sure his contract will be sorted very soon because if it’s not Tottenham stand to lose an exceptionally talented player.”
Transfer Tavern take
While all indications point towards Son putting pen to paper, the player’s talent may attract other suitors, with Mills potentially having a point that Tottenham need to tie him down.
If they do manage it in the next few weeks, it’s safe to say Levy would have worked another stroke of genius.
