Speaking to talkSPORT, pundit Darren Bent has tipped Tottenham to try to sign free agent Diego Costa as the January transfer window opens – going on to say that Spurs ‘would take him’.
Costa, who mutually terminated his contract with Atletico Madrid recently, is now available for nothing bar his salary – with Bent now tipping Spurs to pounce on the opportunity, along with other teams in the top six.
Bent tips Costa swoop
Despite being linked with a centre-back primarily as well as Marcel Sabitzer of RB Leipzig, with Serie A colossus Milan Skriniar touted as a top target for Spurs, Bent believes Daniel Levy and co would also take Costa.
“Spurs would take him. Wolves would. Even someone like Everton,” explained the talkSPORT pundit.
“Any of the top six should go for him.”
“I’d bring him in, in a heartbeat.
“You look at Spurs with Bale, they’ve brought Bale in and he’s not played consistently for 18 months-two years.
“They’re paying a lot more money for him than you’d have to pay for Diego Costa.”
Transfer Tavern take
Given Tottenham managed to land an already proven back up striker in Carlos Vinicius, a move for the Spaniard would certainly turn heads.
Time will tell whether Spurs do seize this opportunity, but it could be an unexpected move given the acquisition of Vinicius.
