Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Darren Bent has tipped Spurs and Daniel Levy to secure the permanent signing of striker Carlos Vinicius following his cameos up front – with the ‘outstanding signing‘ given an opportunity to impress by Jose Mourinho.
Vinicius, who is currently on loan from Portuguese giants Benfica, can sign for Spurs in a £40.9 million permanent deal at the end of the season as part of his agreement – with Mourinho hinting Spurs could do so after he pledged Vinicius ‘will get the opportunity‘ to earn it.
Bent tips Vinicius permanent move
Bent, speaking to Football Insider, has tipped Tottenham to do exactly that – going on to claim Mourinho could well be impressed by his stint in north London so far.
Making few Premier League appearances, Vinicius has been forced to settle for Europa League cameos so far – but Bent believes he may be doing enough to warrant Levy activating the clause to make his deal permanent.
“I think every time he’s played in the Europa League, other than one game, it might have been against LASK where they drew 3-3 and he wasn’t great, other than that, he’s come in and played well,” explained the ex-Spur.
“He’s led the line really well so I think Mourinho will look at it and go: ‘Well yeah, I wouldn’t mind keeping him around.’ There’s a drop off between him and Harry Kane but that’s gonna be the same for any striker that goes in at Spurs.”
Transfer Tavern take
Despite featuring rarely for Spurs in the Premier League, his European record certainly won’t be doing any harm for him as he potentially seeks to impress Mourinho enough for a permanent move.
If Vinicius continues in this vain, it’s safe to say Levy and co will have a big call to make on whether to splash out over £40m.
