Tottenham star Jan Vertonghen is considering an offer from Real Betis, according to the Daily Star via @thespursweb.
Vertonghen’s contract is set to expire in June and the veteran is widely expected to leave. Spurs are currently looking for a replacement ahead of the transfer window re-opening in the summer.
Ever since he arrived at White Hart Lane from Ajax for £11.25m in July 2012, the 33-year-old has formed one half of a formidable partnership with Toby Alderweireld, making more than 300 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring fourteen goals and creating seven assists in all competitions.
The Belgian international was a favourite under Mauricio Pochettino, featuring in in 212 games for the Argentine, and has played in 19 matches in the Premier League for Spurs this season, making 2.1 tackles per game, registering 1.6 interceptions, and completing 5 clearances on average in the English top flight (via WhoScored).
The Green and Whites have now reportedly offered the defender a two-year contract to gain an advantage over their nearest rivals, although he is yet to make a final decision, and could sign a new deal with the North London club if the chance arises.

Naturally, a large number of the THFC faithful reacted to the transfer news online, with one fan commenting “respect,” and another tweeting he is “past his peak.”

We’ve had the best out of SuperJan. His powers are on the decline so we should be upgrading to younger CB.
Jan is entitled to last big pay day which he won’t get at Spurs. A move is good for all parties.#COYS #THFC pic.twitter.com/Me9yX5gBo6

Imagine getting Jan Vertonghen for free, I know he’s past his peak, but statistically was still our best defender this season.
