According to Todofichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are holding talks with Stefan Savic's agent.

The Spanish outlet claims the Atletico Madrid star's representatives have told club officials he has been approached by the Lilywhites.

However, the report adds Spurs face stiff competition from AS Monaco, who are also pursuing the Montenegro international.

Atletico will not stand in his way if he chooses to leave the club in the summer as they are expecting to receive a substantial offer.

While Savic struggled to convince the critics during his time with Manchester City, he has enjoyed a career rebirth at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Jose Mourinho has made it clear he is in the market for a new centre-back, as it seems he could face a shortage of defenders in the months ahead, as Jan Vertonghen and Juan Foyth have both been linked to an exit.

Ever since he arrived at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium from Fiorentina for £22.5m back in 2015, the 29-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s highest-rated defenders, largely due to a transformation under Diego Simeone.

Los Rojiblancos are famously known for being tough to beat and difficult to break down, and Savic has certainly played his part over the years (Bleacher Report).

The Montenegro international has played 14 games in La Liga for Simeone’s side this season, making 1.1 tackles per game, averaging 1.4 interceptions, and completing a staggering 4.2 clearances on average.

Meanwhile, Vertonghen has made 19 appearances in the Premier League in this campaign, registering 2.1 tackles on average, providing 1.6 interceptions, and successfully attempting 2.9 clearances per game.

Moreover, Savic has earned a higher WhoScored rating at the time of writing, so the Montenegrin is clearly a suitable replacement for the wantaway veteran.
