Liverpool have been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, which has put them in a promising position to challenge Manchester City for the title.
The Reds currently find themselves sitting in second position, just two points behind Manchester City, with their unbeaten record still intact.
Interestingly, this season has seen a couple of the club’s stars really step up to the plate, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane spearheading Liverpool’s push for an elusive trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…
MOHAMED SALAH
Mohamed Salah joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2017, and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best pieces of transfer business that the club has ever completed.
Indeed, the Egyptian played a crucial part in their push for silverware in the Champions League last season and managed to grab himself the Golden Boot in the Premier League, scoring a combined 44 goals and providing 16 assists for his teammates in all competitions.
However, supporters from other clubs have labelled him as a one-season wonder in the current campaign, which is hard to judge at this moment in time. It’s safe to say that he hasn’t been as clinical, but he still finds himself just two goals behind the Premier League Golden Boot leader, Sergio Aguero.
TT GRADE: A+
SADIO MANE
Sadio Mane joined Liverpool from fellow Premier League side Southampton back in the summer of 2016. The Senegalese international has since established himself as one of the most dangerous attackers in the Premier League and is a member of the Reds’ famous front three.
Indeed, the winger managed to find the back of the net 20 times and provided nine assists in all competitions last season, in what was his best campaign in the red shirt yet.
And, the 26-year-old has been his dangerous self in the current campaign as he continues to terrorize defences with his pace and skill, with seven goals and one assist to his name.
TT GRADE: A
TT VERDICT:
When comparing these two, it’s clear to see that Salah is having more of an impact on the field, with assists and goals ever-present in his game. But, the Reds wouldn’t find themselves in the promising position they’re currently in without the contributions that Mane has made.
The Egyptian currently has more goals and assists to his name in all competitions, so you could say that he has made more valuable contributions for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season. Forget Luis Suarez, he’s the best Kop star since peak Fernando Torres.
But, the Senegalese international has changed games at times and could easily find himself with a couple more goals to his name if he had been more clinical in front of goal.
Both players will play a huge part in the Reds’ push for silverware and have been influential in seasons gone by, but it’s Salah’s stats in the current campaign and his remarkable first season at Anfield that puts him ahead.
