‘True asset to the club’ – Liverpool fans on Twitter are still absolutely loving Klopp’s midfield key

The Liverpool fas in the Transfer Tavern loved James Milner, then he got Twitter and now they love him even more. Last night was a superb night for those associated with Liverpool as they beat Roma 5-2 at Anfield, a game that saw Milner break the record for most assists in a single Champions League season. His response to the record was just as impressive.

The former Manchester City and Aston Villa man had developed a reputation for being extremely boring. Since he made his Twitter debut though, his sarcastic tweets and sense of humour have proved all of those calling him dull very wrong. Whilst there’s no doubting that he’s a laugh off the field, Milner has also proved to still be incredible on it. The Englishman has provided nine assists in Europe this season, with his most recent being a super corner that Roberto Firmino buried to make it 5-0 yesterday.

The previous record number of assists in a Champions League season was eight, held by both Neymar in the 2016/17 season and Wayne Rooney in the 2013/14 season. Milner has not only broken the record, he’s also done it in fewer minutes than the previous holders. Having played over an hour less than both of Rooney and Neymar in their impressive campaigns. Milner will be looking forward to setting up some more goals for his teammates next Wednesday when he travels to the Stadio Olimpico to face Roma in Liverpool’s semi-final second leg.

Our resident Reds loved Milner’s tweet, and you can see their reactions to it here:
