The Spurs fans down in the Football Transfer Tavern keep putting on a brave face as their club continues it’s inactivity this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have failed to add anyone to their books this summer, but have said goodbye to Kyle Walker after his big money move to Manchester City.
Tottenham have been linked with Everton’s Ross Barkley, though reports suggest parties are struggling to agree terms with the Toffees.
The Englishman, who is still waiting to step on the springboard for his career could find Pochettino the perfect manager to release his talent.
The Argentine has already made a habit of getting the best out of English players at both Southampton and Spurs.
After claiming second place last season, it’s extremely unlikely the North Londoners will not add to their squad before the window shuts, but it is understandable as to why Poch is being particularly careful.
If he isn’t prudent this summer, Poch could end up with flops like these FOUR truly awful signings next season…
LOUIS SAHA
The Frenchman was probably the worst signing of Harry Redknapp’s tenure as Tottenham manager.
In January 2012 Saha completed a six-month free transfer to Spurs on deadline day. The former Manchester United striker scored just three goals in three games for the North Londoners, before Spurs began to choke in the league, and so did the Frenchman.
Clearly a talented player, he was struggling with injuries too often by the time he landed on Hotspur Way.
PAULINHO
The Brazilian was welcomed to White Hart Lane in 2013 with high expectation. However, after a solid start, the 28-year-old’s form quickly went downhill. He featured 15 times the following season, starting on just three occasions.
Paulinho has since enjoyed a remarkable renascence in China and is now a reported target of Barcelona.
How things change.
ROBERTO SOLDADO
Nicknamed ‘Loldado’ by rivals, Roberto Soldado had a nightmare spell with Tottenham.
In the same window as the North Londoners bought Paulinho, Spurs paid Valencia a club-record fee of £26m for the once prolific striker. Still, Soldado scored just 7 league goals (most of them penalties) for Tottenham in two seasons.
He is now back in Spain with Villarreal.
Couldn’t knock his work rate, though not the marksman they’d hoped for.
DAVID BENTLEY
The Englishman, who arrived at White Hart Lane for a club-record fee, had one or two decent games for Tottenham in his first season but quickly began to frustrate his supporters. Spurs moved him on swiftly.
As a result, Spurs moved him on swiftly, through a series of loan spells – including one in Russia.
Bentley eventually retired from the game completely aged just 29.
One cracker against arch rivals Arsenal will, however, live long in the memory.
