TT Battle: Matej Vydra vs Salomon Rondon

Burnley have struggled to ensure consistency in the current campaign under Sean Dyche, while Newcastle United are beginning to build up ahead of steam.

The Clarets will be desperate to enjoy a successful time of things this season after securing a European spot in the last campaign. Meanwhile, the Magpies will be looking to push their way into the top half of the table, with a successful January transfer window helping their cause.

Interestingly, two summer signings will go head-to-head in the Premier League at Turf Moor later on today, as Matej Vydra and Salomon Rondon will play a part in Burnley vs Newcastle United.

With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…

MATEJ VYDRA

Matej Vydra moved to Burnley during the summer transfer window for a fee of £11 million.

However, the Clarets have struggled to get the best out of him this season as he continues to disappoint having made the step up to the Premier League, with just two goals to his name.

So, having splashed the cash on the striker back in the summer months, all the Clarets managed to do was fund Derby County’s promotion push as they spent some of the money on Martyn Waghorn soon after Vydra’s departure and will be sure to spend the cash wisely on reinforcements in the January window.

SALOMON RONDON

Salomon Rondon joined Newcastle United on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion during the summer transfer window, and it’s safe to say that he hasn’t disappointed so far.

The Venezuelan international has managed to produce three goals in the Premier League this season, which included two against Bournemouth not so long ago as he single-handedly fired them to victory.

Newcastle United have had to deal with a number of issues over the past season or so, with the likes of Joselu and Ayoze Perez struggling to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, so it’s nice to finally see Mike Ashley pull off a piece of magic on the transfer front for the Magpies.

TT VERDICT:

When comparing these two, it’s clear to see that Salomon Rondon has had a bigger impact at Newcastle United this season with goals coming freely, while Matej Vydra has had to feed off scraps and hasn’t really done enough to warrant a regular place in the side.

The Magpies’ forward will play a huge part in their campaign as their main source of goals, with a permanent move possibly in the offing if he keeps up his form.

Meanwhile, Sean Dyche appears to have wasted his limited funds at Burnley on Matej Vydra, who is yet to live up to the price tag that was paid, which could be a reason behind their poor start to proceedings.

Both players have the ability to succeed in the Premier League and could play a huge part for their respective teams in the current campaign, but it’s Rondon that has offered more in the final third this season.
