TT Battle: Ryan Sessegnon vs Wilfried Zaha

Fulham currently find themselves in a battle with relegation near the foot of the table, while Manchester United are sitting pretty in fourth position.

The Cottagers will be desperate to pick themselves up and move out of the relegation places, but things aren’t looking very promising at this moment in time. Meanwhile, the Red Devils have been simply sensational under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a top four spot looking extremely likely given their recent form.

Interestingly, Manchester United are reportedly (as per the Express) planning a £50 million raid for Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, so week took a look at Sessegnon’s impact this season and put him up against a Premier League talent who found himself in a similar position to the youngster but didn’t quite make it at Old Trafford, Wilfried Zaha.

With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…

RYAN SESSEGNON

Ryan Sessegnon is arguably one of the most promising talents in English football but he just hasn’t been able to secure regular minutes in the Premier League this season. And, when he has been able to get onto the field he hasn’t made the most of it, with a number of disappointing performances to his name.

He could thrive given regular minutes in the top-flight but things aren’t looking promising for him at Fulham at this moment in time, so a summer exit may well be in the offing.

WILFRIED ZAHA AT MANCHESTER UNITED

Sir Alex Ferguson signed Wilfried Zaha for £10 million up front, with an extra £5 million in additional fees back in January of 2013, and it’s safe to say that this proved to be a huge mistake.

Indeed, the then 20-year-old rejoined Palace on loan for the remainder of that season but only managed to make four appearances for United when he returned.

It’s safe to say that his two years at United were a complete waste as the Manchester club failed to develop one of the most promising talents in English football at the time, with no place for him in the first-team ranks.

TT VERDICT:

When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that Ryan Sessegnon is at the same stage of his career that Wilfried Zaha was prior to his move to Old Trafford, as one of the hottest topics in English football.

Man United no doubt regretted Sir Alex’s decision to bring in Zaha, who was the same age as Sessegnon is now, as he just wasn’t given enough playing time, which halted his development. And, United are now planning to splash £50 million on Sessegnon, who hasn’t even been enjoying regular minutes this season. So, it appears as if they’re setting themselves up to repeat Sir Alex’s huge transfer error, as United have no place for him with Luke Shaw at left-back.
