TT Battle: Willy Boly vs Alfie Mawson

Transfer Battles Generic

Wolverhampton Wanderers have defied expectations in the current campaign, while Fulham are at the opposite end of the spectrum, flirting with the possibility of relegation.

The Midlands club have caused a number of upsets in the current campaign, as Nuno Espirito Santo continues to work wonders at Molineux. Meanwhile, the Cottagers are already onto their second manager for the season, but things are still looking less than convincing at this moment in time.

Interestingly, Wolverhampton Wanderers will travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham later on today, so we took a look at Willy Boly and Alfie Mawson’s influence at their respective clubs.

With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…

WILLY BOLY

Wolverhampton Wanderers secured the services of Jorge Mendes’ client, Willy Boly, back in the summer transfer window for around £10 million, following a successful loan spell at the club in the Championship.

The central defender has been an absolute animal at the heart of the defence in the current campaign, as he continues to play a vital part by making use of his aerial, passing and tackling ability.

Indeed, even some of the best attackers in the Premier League have found it hard to get the better of him.

TT GRADE: A-

ALFIE MAWSON

Fulham secured the services of Alfie Mawson from Swansea City back in the summer transfer window for around £15 million, which seems like quite a lot of money when you consider how disappointing he has been so far.

Indeed, the Cottagers’ main problem in the current campaign has been their defence, which can be put down to Mawson’s lack of defensive solidity in recent times.

So, improvements are definitely needed if he is to help his side avoid relegation.

TT GRADE: B

TT VERDICT:

When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that Willy Boly is at the top of his game at this moment in time, while Mawson is struggling to adjust to life in the English capital after his summer move.

The Frenchman has been one of the signings of the summer for Wolverhampton Wanderers, and he will play a huge part in their campaign from here on in.

On the other hand, the Englishman has failed to live up to expectations and has plenty of improvements to make, with a strong second half of the season possibly turning things around for Fulham.

Both players are at opposite ends of the spectrum in the Premier League at this moment in time, as Boly continues to boss proceedings at the heart of the defence, while Mawson is stuck in a defensive line that struggle to defend.
