This coming Tuesday signifies the end of the January transfer window.

And, for Sunderland to even come close to moving from the bottom three of the Premier League table, something has to change at the Stadium of Light.

Fans of the Black Cats here in the Tavern have been calling out for any sort of change the whole season, but so far nothing has progressed for Sunderland under current manager David Moyes.

If it wasn’t for their prolific goal-scorer Jermain Defoe, the Black Cats would most definitely find themselves in an even worse position then they are already in, and by the current state of things going on at the club, that is hard to imagine.

The landlord has spoken, so therefore let’s look at two lacklustre players who need to be shown the door at Sunderland if anything is to improve for the club…

Jack Rodwell

Since Rodwell’s move to Sunderland in August of 2014, the Englishman’s stock has decreased by the day.

What’s incredible is in the thirty-five times Rodwell has started for the Black Cats in the league, he has not once been on the winning side. Incredibly, his last league win when playing the full ninety came over three years ago, when he was still at Manchester City.

Rodwell has not shown a single spark of promise to the north east’s side supporters, and if Sunderland’s season is to take a positive twist, it starts with Rodwell being shown the door at Sunderland.

Steven Pienaar

Although he only signed for the Black Cats at the start of this year’s Premier League season, Steven Pienaar has been hid behind the curtain since.

The South African winger has not even completed a whole league match under Moyes this season, and in times of despair for Sunderland, who are in need of that bit of pace, creativity and spark on the wings, Pienaar’s name just doesn’t fit into that billing.

They say every dog has its day, and it looks like that is the case for Pienaar’s time at Sunderland, David Moyes needs to send him on his way in an attempt to revive their season.
