Manchester United are interested in the signatures of Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger and Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder as the club looks to fulfil a promise to Wayne Rooney and improve the quality of the squad at United.
Rooney has had a much publicised diasgreement with the Old Trafford club in recent weeks, stating his desire to leave the club as he go’s in search of greater footballing success. However a recent turn around saw the England international sign a new 5 year contract at the club after a promise from boss Alex Ferguson and Chief Executive David Gill that considerable investment in the squad will be made in the near future to match Rooney’s ambitions.
With an aging midfield that consists of the likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, who may retire at the end of this campaign, the potential transfers of Schweinsteiger and Sneijder to the North West club would be see as excellent additions to the playing staff at United which would most definitely enable them to challenge the likes of Chelsea and rivals City for the Premier League’s top honours.
The German international Schweinsteiger has been a member of the Bayern Munich team all his career, making over 200 appearances for the former German champions. However, a recent dip in the form of the club over the last two years has left the 26 year old with aspirations of a move to a club with new ambition and United are set to put their name forward with a bid believed to be in the region of £18 million.
Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder has been linked with United for a number of weeks since his contract negotiations stalled at the Italian club. The Dutch international is seen as a talisman of world football and if brought to the Red Devils, the former Real Madrid man would become an intricate part of the Old Trafford setup for years to come, supplying the likes of Rooney and Javier Hernandez with quality service for years to come.
However, with United’s recent debt issues the ability to raise the kind of funds for both transfers could be extremely difficult, as most of United’s income will go towards debt repayments. If United are to maintain one of the Premier Leagues top clubs and challenge of the title on a regular basis, they must look to establish some form of heavy investment in the playing squad to keep the fans and the big names at the club happy and optimistic of success.
