‘United’s best signing’ – Man United fans ridicule Liverpool star on Twitter following Tottenham draw

The Manchester United fans were in buoyant mood in the Transfer Tavern last night after watching Liverpool and Tottenham share the spoils at Anfield.

The resident Red Devils were interested spectators in the headline fixture of the weekend yesterday as two of their top-four rivals went head-to-head in a thrilling Premier League encounter. Earlier in the weekend, Jose Mourinho’s side comfortably dispatched of Huddersfield by two goals to nil at Old Trafford courtesy of second-half strikes from Romelu Lukaku and a first for the club for Alexis Sanchez.

United’s result saw them move 6 points clear of Liverpool with a game in hand, and the supporters were delighted that Jurgen Klopp’s side could only narrow that gap to 5 points with their draw against Spurs yesterday.

In the aftermath of proceedings, plenty of the United supporters took to Twitter to rub salt into the wounds of the Liverpool supporters who were naturally devastated by Harry Kane’s last-minute equaliser from the penalty-spot.

Kane’s penalty arrived after Virgil Van Dijk was deemed to have upended Erik Lamela inside the penalty area – a decision which has divided supporters and pundits alike.

However, the United fans were not in the mood to discuss the merits of the decision, but rather the impact of Van Dijk who Liverpool signed for £75 million at the beginning of January.

And it’s fair to say the supporters have taken full advantage of Van Dijk’s woes as they have unleashed a tirade of criticism towards the Dutch international on Twitter since the conclusion of the match yesterday evening.

Here’s what some of the United fans have had to say about Van Dijk’s performance against Spurs…

Good signing that Van Dijk. 75 million down the drain

75M pounds gets you a weavon wearing Titus bramble that snatches a draw from victory.

Nothing but respect for Van Dijk

That’s a huge result for us. Would like to thank the £75,000,000 Virgil van Dijk for that ridiculous challenge. We’re five points clear now, over to you Watford.

Both teams bottling it, Kane completely falling to pieces with that first penalty, Van Dijk giving away a last minute equaliser, draw….perfect! #LivTot #mufc

Van Dijk has been Uniteds best signing of the January transfer window no doubt about it.#MUFC

Van Dijk's drycleaning expenses will be insane.

Doubt there's a clean sheet in his house
