After the summer window disaster in which Chelsea struggled to tie down many of their targets, many of the regulars in the bar were hoping to not see a repeat performance in this winter window. Although they secured the signing of Ross Barkley early on, since then, Antonio Conte again looks a frustrated figure.

Following a couple of injuries, Conte must fear a repeat of the early season threadbare situation that rocked their campaign. Many of the punters in the back of the bar think that it’s time Roman Abramovich backed the manager in the window for fear of him leaving in the future.

Short-term-ism

Chelsea doesn’t seem to be a club that plans for the future and has in the recent years, bought for the sake of what they need now to succeed. This trend has worked in the past but with the emergence of several top-flight clubs now instead of just having the one main rival, the strategy of outspending is in the past.

Chelsea need to start planning projects with players and develop teams instead of thinking instant success. this short minded approach is hindering the progression of the Blues.

Helping Conte

In stark contrast to the first point, the Chelsea board have found themselves in a situation where their squad isn’t big enough in terms of quality to compete on all four fronts. Conte has often found himself coming up short on match day due to injuries or suspensions.

With that in mind, Conte as of this moment needs to quick fix till the end of the season, and bringing in the players he wants will only aid their pursuit of bringing some kind of silverware in this season.
