Gerrard’s backroom staff will be crucial to his success as he’ll need a team of people that he can trust and rely on to help him succeed in his first senior role in management. The job won’t be easy though, as the Scouse legend has been tasked with narrowing the gulf in class between the Gers and their Old Firm rivals Celtic, who are fresh off the back of winning back-to-back domestic trebles, the first time any club has achieved the feat in Scottish football.
If Stevie G can successfully overcome Celtic over the course of a season it will be an enormous achievement for the 38-year-old as he takes his first footsteps in management. It will be a strange transition for Gerrard though, as the face in charge of Celtic is a familiar one. Brendan Rodgers, Gerrard’s former gaffer, will be going toe-to-toe in the Old Firm and it’ll be a testament to the Bluenoses’ gaffers ability if he can usurp the Hoops as Scottish football’s top club.
