Alan Pardew took the loss on the chin and his usual considered style wasn’t going to panicked by a result that at the end of the day doesn’t herald the end of the world for Newcastle united.

Newcastle accredited themselves even with a team that reflected a number of personnel changes from those usually present for Premier League duty. One particular positive was the performance of Rob Elliot.

“I’m glad of that, [the recognition from Newcastle fans Elliot is getting], I think he’s come in for a bit of criticism over one game at Nottingham Forest.
