Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says he is “shocked” by the findings of the Hillsborough report , which found officers had changed statements and tried to blame fans for the disaster.
A vigil was held in Liverpool on Wednesday to remember the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy and Rodgers, who was in attendance, says the ceremony “increased his pride” at managing the club.
With the information now in the public domain it is time for real justice to be exacted. Investigations into the failings of the police and ambulance services at the stadium must bear results – according to the review information the independent panel highlighted that 41 people could have been saved after 15.15, the time at which the inquest stated all victims were dead.
The doctored statements and attempts to cover up their shortcomings need also be addressed, with criminal punishment necessary where applicable.
South Yorkshire Police have since said it is considering referring itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission over its actions around the Hillsborough disaster.
