Wenger drops major attacking midfielder hint for Arsenal

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been in joyous mood of late after a strong run of form brought the good times back to the Emirates.

Following the 2-0 win over Reading in the EFL Cup , the Gunners in the Tavern are indulging in their annual Arsene Wenger-induced love in.

Now, Le Prof has dropped a big hint about his plans for one particular attacking midfielder.

After his performance against the Royals last night, the 67-year-old has revealed he sees a future for Alex Iwobi in the No.10 role.

The Nigerian attacker has emerged as one of the most promising youngsters in the Premier League since making his debut last season, playing largely on the left of a floating front three.

Still, he was flanked by both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jeff Reine-Adelaide last night and the 20-year-old looked at home in a central attacking berth.

“You see, he is not a typical winger and I think he can play in that role”, said Wenger to Arsenal’s official website.

“He turns the game forward, he passes the ball through the lines very well. He has a final ball in him. He is now a little bit, I think he has it all in the locker to pass and give the final ball.”

Mesut Ozil will take some beating in that role right now, but the Super Eagles star could well be the man to lead the next generation of his club forward.
