Pundit Carlton Palmer has been reacting to an update on reported West Brom target Jerry Yates.

The Lowdown: West Brom links

The Baggies have struggled in the Championship this season, winning just three of their 18 league games so far. West Brom have scored 21 goals in those fixtures, leading to speculation last month suggesting that the club have been watching Yates.

Football Insider have recently revealed that Blackpool currently value the 25-year-old at £4m, with Scottish giants Rangers also keen on a transfer.

The Latest: Palmer’s comments

Palmer, who now contributes for the BBC, was talking to Football League World regarding Yates. He believes that his £4m valuation is fairly low and thinks ‘something is bound to happen’ in regards to his future.

“It’s a little bit on the low side for sure. But he has no proven experience of top-flight football. He wasn’t prolific last year in the Championship. However, he was prolific in League one the year before, scoring 20 goals.

“So, you know, he’s making a lot of noise at the moment. Nine goals in 16 games, he’s providing assists and he’s playing very, very well.

“Ten Scouts have gone to watch him, so for me, it seems that something’s bound to happen.”

The Verdict: One to watch?

Yates has been hailed as a player who is “good at everything” by former boss Richie Wellens, and his displays in recent months have seemingly caught West Brom’s eye. He has played all across the front three, contributing to 11 goals in 18 second-tier games.

The versatile forward has netted 54 goals since the beginning of the 2019/20 season and appears to be at the peak of his powers with a career-high Transfermarkt valuation, so he could be just what Carlos Corberan needs heading into the second half of the campaign.
