West Brom: Joseph Masi backs Callum Robinson for exit

Bloomfield Road, Blackpool, Britain - November 23, 2021, West Bromwich Albion's Callum Robinson.

West Brom forward Callum Robinson could seal a return to former club Preston in the summer transfer window, reliable journalist Joseph Masi has reported.

The Lowdown: Robinson could leave Baggies

The 27-year-old was a regular for the Baggies last season, appearing in 43 of his side’s 46 Championship appearances, albeit only starting 26 of them.

With Steve Bruce looking to take his team up a gear next season following the disappointment of the 2021/22 campaign, some of last year’s under-performers will have to move on to make room for new signings, and Robinson has been rumoured to be one of those.

Judging by the latest report from the reliable Masi, that eventuality now looks increasingly certain.

The Latest: Preston return on the cards?

According to The Express & Star‘s Baggies reporter, Bruce is ‘willing’ to allow Robinson to leave, with a Preston return now possible after manager Ryan Lowe confirmed their interest in him.

The forward spent three years at Deepdale permanently between 2016 and 2019, having initially been on loan there.

The Verdict: Time to move on

Robinson has struggled to set the world alight during his time at West Brom, scoring just 17 goals in 89 appearances, so now could be the right time to move on, despite being described as ‘wonderful’ by Don Goodman.

Will West Brom gain promotion next season?

It would free up the wage bill for new signings that could provide more quality moving forward and allow the player himself a fresh challenge as a regular starter, potentially at a club he already knows well.

If West Brom are to seal a return to the Premier League next season, they need someone more potent and consistent than Robinson, who hasn’t registered double figures in a league season since 2018/19.
