West Bromwich Albion are considering a loan move to sign Aston Villa defender Lamare Bogarde in January, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Bogarde profiled
The Dutchman arrived at Villa Park from Feyenoord back in 2020 and has worked his way up through the ranks ever since, becoming one of the club’s most promising young talents.
The centre-back is currently participating in his side’s mid-season training camp, though should he want to find regular game time, there are two clubs who are keen to bring him to the Championship.
The Latest: West Brom eyeing Bogarde
According to Football Insider, West Brom and Norwich City are both ‘chasing’ Bogarde ahead of January, with the duo ‘targeting’ the teenager in the hope of securing a loan deal for the second half of the campaign.
Villa are ‘yet to decide’ whether to let him leave in the winter market, though Unai Emery is ‘running the rule’ over him whilst away in Dubai.
The Verdict: Worth the pursuit
Norwich could hold the advantage in the race for Bogarde’s signature due to him working alongside Dean Smith during his time at Villa, though the Baggies should definitely still pursue him.
The Netherlands U18s international has posted nine goal contributions throughout his career so far and already has caps at three different youth levels to his name for the Oranje (Transfermarkt).
Bogarde has been praised for his ‘immense’ potential by Villa Academy manager Mark Harrison, and he could get the minutes he’s looking for should he make the move to The Hawthorns.
