West Brom: Baggies now keen on Leam Richardson -Championship News

West Brom are now looking at a potential move for Wigan Athletic manager Leam Richardson, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Countless targets

The Baggies parted ways with Steve Bruce on Monday, which has resulted in plenty of speculation in regards to a successor.

A number of managers, in and out of work, have been linked with the job at The Hawthorns, including Michael Carrick, Roy Keane, Chris Wilder, Gary Rowett and Carlos Corberan to name a few.

However, it looks as if a new manager has now emerged on the radar of chief executive Ron Gourlay.

The Latest: Richardson links

O’Rourke shared a story for Football Insider in the last 24 hours regarding West Brom and Richardson.

He revealed that Richardson is ‘in the frame’ for the job and is believed to have admirers from West Brom officials after impressing with the Latics.

Richardson at West Brom?

Yes, get him in!

The Verdict: A gamble?

Richardson’s only previous managerial experience prior to taking over at Wigan came with Accrington Stanley back in 2012. He has impressed with Wigan after taking over from Paul Cook, though, leading the club back to the Championship last season.

The 42-year-old, who likes to use a 4-2-3-1 system, averages an impressive 1.79 points per game after officially becoming the club’s permanent manager, but a move to West Brom could be a risk given his lack of experience.

It may also prove to be an inspired appointment if he gets it right, but one has to wonder if the Baggies need someone with a bit more pedigree.
