Having off-days is just part and parcel of being a professional footballer. However, there’s having an off day is one thing, but having your club’s entire fan basing demanding that one player is sold at half-time in a game is taking it to a new level, yet that’s what Angelo Ogbonna had yesterday after his efforts against Burnley.

The Hammers went in at half-time at Turf Moor 2-0 down and not looking like they’d ever really got out of 2nd gear. However, things could have been so different had Manuel Pellegrini not had to field a makeshift defence consisting of Aaron Cresswell, Ogbonna, Issa Diop and Michail Antonio. The fact that they’ve got a striker in Antonio at right back as well as Ogbonna just sums it up for the Irons.
The fans will be counting down the days until they can celebrate Fabian Balbuena’s return to the starting eleven, and with the Paraguayan defender out injured it truly will be a tough wait until they’ve got their favoured defensive pairing of Balbeuna and Diop back together. In the meantime, though, the Hammers will have to just continue slating Ogbonna and trying to get through games with the Italian in the side.

The Irons were fuming with their Italian defender yesterday, and it’s easy enough to see why after the 30-year-old’s shocker.
