They claim top brass at the club are eager for Slaven Bilic to bring Rio Ferdinand in as a defensive coach, following talks between the Croatian and club bosses.
The former England international, who used to play for the Irons, is believed to have offered his services as a coach in order to help their leaky backline.
While those behind the scenes will reportedly not force the move, they are thought to be eager to work with the ex-Manchester United star and believe he could provide a fresh voice.
Ferdinand came through their famed academy and is widely regarded as one of the best defenders this country has ever produced, wetting the appetite of the Irons propping up the bar.
