Speaking to Football Insider, talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has heaped praise on GSB after their decision to sell promising young Hammers talent Grady Diangana in the summer – a club move that was tipped to ‘haunt West Ham‘ amid backlash.
Signing for West Brom in a deal worth £18 million, captain Mark Noble was furious after the deal went through – releasing a statement that he was ‘gutted and angry‘ over David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady’s decision to offload the talent.
Should West Ham have sold Diangana?
No, worst move
Having helped the Baggies clinch Premier League promotion throughout a stunning loan campaign, starring in England’s second tier, Diangana could have gone on to become a real creative asset for David Moyes.
Agbonlahor praises Diangana sale
Regardless, choosing to cash in, the club sold Diangana which helped fund a move for fellow attacker Said Benrahma – and Agbonlahor believes it was definitely the right decision despite the bad press.
“He scored early on and he was playing well and he’s not been as good since,” he explained to Football Insider.
“But from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a great player and I think sometimes when you see a great player being sold in the manner he was, it’s going to upset players and the likes of Noble have spoken out.
“The money they sold Diangana for helped them bring in Benrhama, so sometimes you’ve got to wait until the window has closed before judging.
“They had a lot of players in that position so they were right to let him go for a handsome fee.”
Transfer Tavern take
While many Hammers were left disappointed at the club’s decision, depending on how Benrahma performs in the top flight, it remains to be seen whether this move will come to fruition.
Only time will tell, but supporters could now be hoping that it does eventually pay off, considering the reputation and hype surrounding Benrahma’s arrival.
