West Ham United: Fans fume as Irons end transfer interest in James Tarkowski

A number of West Ham fans have reacted furiously to reports that the Irons have ended their transfer interest in James Tarkowski.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Hammers had three bids for the defender rejected by Burnley, the most recent of which was £31m with £25m of that to be paid up front.

Sports journalist Pete O’Rourke tweeted this afternoon (via @SportsPeteO) that the east Londoners have duly withdrawn their interest in the 27-year-old after being stonewalled for a third time by the Clarets. That news was also reported today by Football Insider.

With the transfer window closing two weeks from today, West Ham have still not brought in any new players over the summer. The only new deal has been for Tomas Soucek, who has made his loan move from 2019/20 permanent.

With the club’s owners David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady already under fire from much of a disillusioned fan base, this latest development unsurprisingly drew the ire of many Irons fans – one of whom called it “classic Sullivan” to end up with nothing after a lengthy pursuit ended in failure to make what would have been the first genuine incoming in this transfer window:
