GSB have reportedly begun talks to bring Matheus Pereira to West Ham, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

The lowdown: Midfielder in high demand

Leeds United were believed to be rivalling the likes of Leicester City, Brentford, Norwich City and Brighton and Hove Albion for a potential agreement for Pereira.

The playmaking forward chipped in with 12 goals and six assists during the 2020/21 season for West Brom, although his efforts weren't quite enough as they were relegated back into the Championship.

West Brom reportedly value their talisman in the region of £30million, according to ESPN journalist Joao Castelo-Branco.

The latest: Journalist drops update

West Ham have reportedly entered the race to sign Pereira this summer, as they look to find a potential alternative for Andriy Yarmolenko ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

The Hammers might not have it all their way when it comes to trying to strike an agreement to sign the 25-year-old though, with Ekrem Konur revealing that Al-Hilal are also believed to be keen on signing the Brazilian.

"West Ham are considering Matheus Pereira to replace Yarmolenko. The first conversation with the player and West Bromwich took place. The Al Hilal team is also keeping a close eye on Pereira's situation."

The verdict: It's a move that makes perfect sense

This could turn out to be an excellent bit of business by the Hammers.

Not being able to re-sign Jesse Lingard could be a sizeable blow for David Moyes' side, but they could be making a shrewd move if they were to strike an agreement to sign Pereira as an alternative.

Pereira has shown that he an adjust to the demands of Premier League football, and speaking in an interview whilst he was West Brom's manager, Sam Allardyce tipped Pereira to continue to impress in the top flight.

"I have worked with some world class players in my time.

"I can’t say Matheus is world class but he certainly has the potential to be a top class Premier League player if he continues developing."

Hammers fans will be hoping Big Sam is spot on in his assessment if the deal goes through.
