According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, West Ham are eyeing a bargain swoop for AS Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara, along with Leicester City – coming after a significant £34.4 million price drop since 2018.
Diawara, who has not been given many minutes in Serie A this season, could be on the way out in January as the Italian club prepare to offload him in order to fund strengthening their own ranks.
Should West Ham sign Diawara?
No, keep Rice at all costs
Diawara on Hammers radar
The former Bologna and Napoli midfielder, averaging a 90% pass accuracy over the time he has played this season (WhoScored), is reportedly attracting interest from the Hammers – with David Moyes apparently willing to sanction a bargain £18 million bid considering his past price tag.
Now, with his potential value falling all the way to £18m, the Hammers and GSB now see an opportunity to swoop for a highly capable midfield option as rumours of a Declan Rice exit continue to surface.
Transfer Tavern take
Described as a ‘phenomenon‘ by Fabrizio Tazzioli, the 6 foot 1 ace could certainly be a viable replacement for Rice should West Ham’s favourite son leave east London.
His presence in front of the back four and physicality could suit the Premier League well, and if the Hammers can land him for a meagre £18m, it’s safe to say Diawara may be a bargain for GSB and the club.
