Speaking to Sky Sports, via Football Daily, journalist Dharmesh Sheth has made a West Ham United transfer claim involving Jesse Lingard.
The Lowdown: West Ham eye permanent deal…
Lingard has been touted as one of West Ham’s top transfer targets for this window following his incredible run of form during a 2020/2021 loan stint.
The Englishman linked up with David Moyes in January and helped to guide West Ham to the Europa League group stages for next season.
Moyes is reportedly keen on bringing Lingard to the London Stadium indefinitely after his sensational West Ham spell, with Sheth now providing the latest.
The Latest: Sheth makes Lingard claim…
Speaking to Sky, Sheth has shared an update on West Ham’s pursuit of the 28-year-old.
Lingard, while remaining a key target for the Irons, hasn’t yet made a decision on his future and neither have Manchester United.
“West Ham United still want to sign the Manchester United forward,” the reporter explained (via Football Daily).
“West Ham, though, are still waiting for a decision from Manchester United and from Jesse Lingard, because he’s into the final year of his contract.
“Will he be offered a new deal? Or will he see out the remainder of his contract or will indeed Manchester United cash in.
“That’s where West Ham could come in, because West Ham definitely do want to bring him back to the London Stadium.”
The Verdict: Get it done…
As much will centre around United’s stance and the player’s key final decision, West Ham should waste no time in signing Lingard if he does decide to pack his bags.
The attacking midfielder scored nine goals and assisted four others over 16 Premier League starts for West Ham last season (WhoScored), and his presence was arguably crucial to securing European football.
His added threat in the final third provided an extra dimension for Moyes to exploit, evident by Lingard averaging the most shots on goal per 90 out of any West Ham player over 20/21 (WhoScored).
Lauded as ‘phenomenal’ by talkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham for his scintillating spell in east London, it’s little wonder, that the Irons still want to make the move happen.
