West Ham United: Hammers readying 'big cheque' for William Saliba - Premier League

As per French news outlet Jeunesfooteux, West Ham United are now weighing yet another marquee offer as news emerges on Arsenal defender and Marseille loanee William Saliba.

The Lowdown: Hammers lodge big bids…

Over the last week of the January transfer window, the Irons and manager David Moyes got busy with record-breaking bids for some notable stars from both the Premier League and abroad.

Can you name all of these forgotten West Ham flops...who is this Allardyce signing?

Big offers were made for Leeds United duo Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, according to reports, with Irons recruitment chief Rob Newman also lodging a £60 million deadline day transfer offer for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez (The Evening Standard).

In an out-of-window development, it appears Moyes and West Ham have already set their sights on another ahead of next summer.

The Latest: West Ham ready ‘big cheque’ for Saliba…

Jeunesfooteux say that West Ham are ‘ready to sign a big cheque’ for Gunners sensation Saliba, who is currently a mainstay out on loan at Marsielle.

It is believed that Moyes and Newman have even made the 20-year-old a ‘priority’ for the summer and are willing to put €30 million (£25m) on the table.

Following this development, Marseille may now find it ‘difficult’ to keep him.

The Verdict: Get it done…

West Ham’s failure to land Moyes another central defensive option are well documented, most notably in their attempt to sign another Marseille ace in Duje Caleta-Car.

However, a player of Saliba’s young age and quality could well be worth the wait.

His teammate, Mattéo Guendouzi, certainly rates the Frenchman – recently calling him ‘extraordinary’ and a ‘very important player’ for the Ligue 1 giants (www.ligue1.com).

According to WhoScored, Saliba also averages a very impressive 93.6% pass accuracy out from the back – more than any West Ham man with over one league start.

This highlights his composure and technical quality at such a young age, potentially giving Moyes and the club a big decision to make this summer over whether to go all in for the centre-back.
