The mood around West Ham United has definitely lifted recently as they have managed to pick up two emphatic victories over Wolves and Leicester City in the Premier League to give them six points from four games.

They also recently signed full-back Vladimir Coufal, and the right-back impressed on his Premier league debut last weekend, but it seems like the Hammers want to strengthen the defence even more as they are now linked with an ambitious move for Jonathan Tah.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Irons have made an enquiry on transfer deadline day for the Germany centre-back.

The position is one in which David Moyes has noticeably been trying to improve for the duration of the transfer window, as they had made a couple of big bids for Burnley defender James Tarkowski, but the fact that they are now looking at Tah highlights that they feel they will not be able to get the England international.

The 24 year-old Tah, who is valued at £21.6 million on Transfermarkt, has already managed to play 291 times in his home nation for his current club Bayer Leverkusen, as well as Hamburg and Fortuna Dusseldorf. He has also made nine appearances for Germany, which highlights the quality and potential he does possess to be a very good defender.

Last season, the 6 foot 5 beast played 24 times in the Bundesliga, picking up nine clean sheets and one assist, per Transfermarkt. He showed his quality to frustrate and break up opposition attacks as he managed 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.8 clearances on average per game last campaign, via WhoScored.

With his age and experience, Tah looks like he could be a great acquisition for the Irons if they were to attempt to sign him and he would definitely strengthen the defence.

They are also playing a formation which favours three centre-backs and full-back Aaron Cresswell is currently playing out of position in the back three. This emphasises their need for strength in depth in the position, something which Tah would definitely provide, and the potential signing should excite supporters of the East London side.
