The Lowdown: West Ham join Onuachu race...

The Irons have been linked with a move for the towering forward since last month, with reports first emerging from Nigeria detailing their interest.

Allnigeriasoccer.com even claimed that manager David Moyes personally told West Ham hierarchy to table an official bid for the 27-year-old.

Now, Voetbal have brought the latest in regards to Onuachu and West Ham.

The Latest: West Ham 'main candidate' to sign Onuachu

As per the news source, Moyes and West Ham are the main candidates to sign him this summer and his exit from current club Genk is 'written in the stars'.

However, with no agreement reached yet, the Super Eagles striker continues to train with Genk during pre-season.

It is claimed that the Belgian Jupiler Pro League side want to receive a club record bid for Onuachu's services after his stellar season - where he bagged 29 goals in 33 top flight appearances.

Indeed, the negotiations 'are not yet off' as West Ham seek to finally sign a new forward.

The Verdict: Get it done...

It's little wonder Moyes has set out a new striker signing as one of West Ham's priorities for this summer with Michail Antonio's injury record proving a worry.

West Ham could find a very capable goalscorer in Onuachu, not to mention a towering physical presence at 6 foot 6 - with Nigeria teammate Kenneth Omeruo describing him as 'so huge and very strong' (omasports.com).

Valued at around £18 million by Transfermarkt, a figure in and around this price could prove to be a bargain.
