According to Football Insider, a West Ham United source has shared some significant Rush Green exit news involving 6 foot 3 defender Winston Reid.

The Lowdown: Reid in West Ham wilderness...

Reid, who has not played for the Irons since March 2018, is currently on the fringes of manager David Moyes' team and apparently does not feature in the Scotsman's plans this season.

The New Zealand international spent the second half of last season on loan at Brentford, starting seven Championship matches and impressing defensively - with Bees boss Thomas Frank even calling him a 'giant'.

Indeed, he averaged the joint-most interceptions per 90 out of their entire squad in that time (1.5) whilst winning the second most aerial duels (WhoScored).

Regardless, West Ham could not find a suitor in the summer, with an Irons source now sharing what could be a key development.

The Latest: West Ham chiefs hold Reid termination talks...

As per the source at Football Insider, West Ham chiefs have held talks about offering Reid a handsome pay-off to leave the club.

Indeed, the Hammers are apparently ready to explore more 'drastic measures' to get the 33-year-old off their wage bill and save some much-needed funds.

Reid is currently on around £70,000-per-week at West Ham and his contract does not expire for another two years.

Club chiefs were willing to pay a significant portion of his salary to secure a move away for him in the summer but that failed to come to fruition.

The Verdict: Time to go?

While it is frustrating to move away from Reid with no profit to show for it, at 33 you could argue they stood to make little sell-on value anyway.

His salary is a current drain on the club's finances and his exit is especially needed following the signings of Alphonse Areola, Kurt Zouma, Alex Kral and Nikola Vlasic in the summer.

We believe attempting to mutually terminate his deal could come as a good move by GSB and the club.
