Taking to Twitter, reliable reporter Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports has broken a big transfer update out of West Ham United involving Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.

The Lowdown: West Ham set for final push...

Over this past week, reports have indicated that the Hammers and manager David Moyes are set for a final winter window push for new additions as January nears it's end.

West Ham have, thus far, failed to confirm the signing of a new striker or centre-half to strengthen the Scotsman's squad with head of recruitment Rob Newman set for a busy few days.

The Irons are reportedly in talks to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car as they attempt to reach a compromise, with Moyes and co after a loan deal while the Ligue 1 giants are looking for permanent transfer.

Sharing more news on West Ham's last minute plans, Sky reporter Thomas has some news on striker target Ekitike.

The Latest: West Ham in last gasp talks...

According to his sources, West Ham are in talks to sign the exciting French forward for Moyes who could cost 'in excess' of €30 million (£25m).

"Another new one emerging this evening via Dharmesh Sheth and myself," he explained on Twitter.

"West Ham are interested in Hugo Ekitike and one source saying talks have begun. Stade Reims still asking for in excess of €30m."

The Verdict: Worth it?

£25 million could be a big financial gamble for a starlet who only has half a season of prolific European top flight form under his belt.

While the dazzling 19-year-old has drawn comparisons to Kylian Mbappe, Ekitike's eight goals and three assists over 19 Ligue 1 appearances this season may not be quite enough to justify such a bid.

If West Ham and Newman can whittle down that asking price, Reims' prized gem could be worth the swoop, but if not, it may be worth re-considering other targets.

The issue for Moyes is time and just how long the club have to weigh alternatives in these crunch final days.
