West Ham United are one of a few Premier League outfits to be keeping an eye on Wolfsberger striker Shon Weissman, according to an exclusive report by 90min.
The Hammers have reportedly been watching the forward closely over recent weeks alongside Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City. Indeed, it isn’t just English clubs that are said to be interested in the Israeli international too as ‘more than a dozen foreign clubs’ were watching on as Wolfsberger faced AS Roma in the Europa League on Thursday.
Weissman only made the move to the Austrian club in the summer as well, ending a five-year professional spell at Maccabi Haifa which included three loans to fellow Israeli clubs.
It is no surprise that he is interesting so many teams as his form this campaign has been remarkable. Impressively, the 23-year-old has netted 17 times in 13 games across all competitions, including a four-goal scoring spree in 36 minutes against SV Mattersburg earlier this season.
Following Javier Hernandez’s departure to Sevilla in the summer that leaves Manuel Pellegrini with just two recognised first-team strikers in Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti, who both arrived over the course of the summer.
If Pellegrini is looking for reinforcement in that area – to either push for the top six or potentially compete in Europe next season – and some healthy competition, then the interest in Weissman makes complete sense in a move that could add yet another dimension to the Hammers attack.
Clearly a capable goal threat, the likes of Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Manuel Lanzini are all averaging over 1 key pass per game in the Premier League this season (via WhoScored), he wouldn’t be short of service.
