Some West Ham United fans have been reacting with delight at the news that Angelo Ogbonna’s contract has the possibility of being extended by a further one or two years by the club.
According to a report by Claret and Hugh, the Hammers have a clause in the Italian’s present deal to make it longer than the current terms he has which tie him down to the London Stadium until 2022.
As the insiders also mention, with the defender already 31-years-old, adding a further two years to his deal could end up seeing the £7.2m-rated enforcer (as per TransferMarkt) effectively see out the last of his playing days in east London as he would be 35 by its conclusion.
Indeed, this news has left a number of the Irons’ faithful delighted and it is hardly a surprise to understand exactly why they would be jumping for joy at the reveal.
Claret and Hugh mention that Ogbonna is a leading candidate in their opinion to win the coveted Hammer of the Year award and WhoScored’s data would appear to further highlight that view. In his 24 Premier League appearances this season, the enforcer has managed to win an average of 3.1 aerial duels, 1.3 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and make 4.4 clearances per game awarding him a match rating of 6.69 – the 10th best of the current West Ham squad.
Here are what just some of the club’s faithful had to say about the reveal…
Good, he has been brilliant this year… great to have his experience around the youth as well I would imagine

That would make a nice change, it's normally West Ham ending the careers of footballers. 😂
