West Ham United: Fans praise Paolo Di Canio after hearing he rejected Manchester United move

A lot of West Ham fans are loving the latest story told by club legend Paolo Di Canio, as he discussed recently how he rejected a move to Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager.

The former attacker was on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk Podcast and explained his reasoning behind declining such a lucrative offer after receiving a phone call from the former United boss back in 2001.

He emphasised in the interview that he could not leave the Hammers because they were the ‘family’ that helped him out during the worst moments in his life. These comments have made the East London fanbase love the Italian even more, with one calling him a ‘cult hero’, whilst another said that the club ‘need more players like Di Canio.’

The centre-forward had a great career for the Irons, making 136 appearances, whilst providing 14 assists and scoring 51 goals, including his famous volley against AFC Wimbledon, per Transfermarkt.
