West Ham United have emerged as shock contenders in the race to sign Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, that is according to a report from the Express.

It is suggested that the club’s board are prepared to back new manager David Moyes with the funds to improve the squad as they aim to avoid relegation to the Championship this term.
They could face competition for the 28-year-old’s signature however, with Manchester City also thought to be interested whilst according to the report, he is also a long-time target of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
Koulibaly has apparently asked to leave the Serie A club according to Area Napoli and the Express insist that the Italian outfit want £70 million for him.
Whilst he would surely be a quality signing having played 25 times in the Champions League (Transfermarkt) and being labelled as the best defender in the world by Carlo Ancelotti in 2019, most Hammers fans are extremely sceptical that the Senegal international would actually move to the east London club.
Indeed many have laughed off the rumour and suggested that it is complete nonsense, insisting that the transfer would never happen.
Here is what some had to say on Twitter…
