Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern witnessed Daniel Levy’s dislike of West Ham United yesterday as The Telegraph explains how he stopped Emmanuel Adebayor joining the Hammers on loan late on deadline day.
The Spurs chairman had agreed to remove some of Adebayor’s £100,000-a-week wages by letting him go out on loan but West Ham United was a forbidden destination.
The other choices for the Togo international were either Queens Park Rangers or Crystal Palace but instead he opted to see out the season at White Hart Lane.
QPR were willing to offer £60,000-a-week whilst Palace offered to fund £70,000-a-week.
Frustratingly for Sam Allardyce, Adebayor had made it known he wanted to join the Hammers ahead of the two relegation fighters but Levy didn’t let the deal go through.
Despite the bitter news, West Ham fans have had a little gloat claiming ‘I didn’t know we were considered as top four competition?’
Only six points separates the two London clubs and this gave Levy the incentive to butt in and tell the officials at Spurs to block any move to their cross-town rivals.
Rumours suggest that another enquiry was launched with an hour remaining of the window but Levy stood his ground and gave nothing away.
