What a fantastic signing this would be for West Bromwich Albion

The Baggies are in the Transfer Tavern tonight and they are drinking to celebrate following rumours that a Premier League legend could be joining their club.

Reports from the Telegraph have revealed that Tony Pulis is closing in on a deal to bring Gareth Barry to the Hawthorns.

The 36-year-old midfielder has made a total of 628 Premier League appearances in his career, only four less than the current record holder Ryan Giggs.

Our landlord thinks this would be a fantastic signing for the Baggies if they can get it done.

Despite his age, Barry has shown no real signs of slowing down and still gives the same solid performances week in, week out that he has done for his entire career.

His experience would be a huge boost in the dressing room following the departure of Darren Fletcher to Stoke City.

Despite the club’s problems in attack, their defence is solid and sticking Gareth Barry in front of that defence is only going to make it more difficult for any opposition sides.

It wouldn’t be surprising either to see Barry sign on for a two or three-year deal at the Hawthorns, the landlord reckons he’s got the legs to keep going at this level for a few more years yet.

An experienced player who has probably only had a handful of bad games in his career could be exactly what Pulis’ side need to push on during the 2017/18 campaign.
