It’s become pretty clear to the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern that major improvements are needed to their defensive line this summer and an intriguing report has emerged today.
The Gunners are said to be the latest side expressing an interest in Southampton’s Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk, who has excelled with the Saints this season and is tipped to earn a lucrative move to a Premier League giant this summer.
The likes of Liverpool and Chelsea are believed to be keen on Van Dijk but Arsenal are now set to enter the running, as the Gunners consider shifting to a back-three formation after utilising that set-up in Monday’s victory over Middlesbrough.
Van Dijk would come into Arsenal’s defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi, signed last summer, to establish a dominating back-line that could finally help the Gunners rise to the top of English football once again.
However, not everyone is convinced by the reports and many suggest Arsenal should be looking elsewhere- although our landlord believes this deal would be a massive boost for the Gunners.
Having spent 35 on Mustafi. What a mess. Flex our muscles and throw Money at Alderwiereld

Wenger passed on him when at Celtic, unlikely to pursue now

Good player but does this mean AW is going to be setting another tactic in stone for years to come. We need fluidity in tactics!

Make. It. Happen.

Would love to see Van Dijk at Arsenal. Class defender, strong, composed, good in possession. Definite upgrade on Mustafi IMO.
