Wolverhampton Wanderers spent heavily during the summer transfer window as they secured the services of a number of quality players.
The Midlands club welcomed the likes of Willy Boly, Ruben Vinagre, Adama Traore, Joao Moutinho, Rui Patricio, Benik Afobe, Leander Dendoncker, Leo Bonatini and Raul Jimenez to the club back in the summer months.
However, one player that hasn’t lived up to expectations since making a permanent move to the club is Bonatini.
Indeed, the Brazilian, who is currently valued at £4.5 million (by Transfermarkt), signed on a permanent deal from Saudi Professional League side Al-Hilal for an undisclosed fee back in the summer transfer window, after a successful loan spell in the Championship at Molineux.
The striker scored 12 goals in 43 games as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side won the Championship last season, but he currently has just one goal to his name this season. He has had his critics in the current campaign due to his lack of potency in front of goal, with many supporters calling for him to be axed in January.
Wolves’ owners Fosun International have a plan to make the club a European powerhouse in the future, but their aims and aspirations will never be met while Bonatini is at the club.
Sadly, Nuno Santo’s side have struggled to find a goals source in the current campaign as the likes of Diogo Jota, Helder Costa, Raul Jimenez, Ivan Cavaleiro and Adama Traore have only produced seven goals between them.
So, the Portuguese boss’ next line of call would be to get Bonatini involved on the field to help lighten the load on the other attackers, but he has failed the club miserably as the so-called back-up striker.
Therefore, with Fosun International putting their trust in Bonatini by bringing him in at the start of the season on a permanent deal, he has repaid their faith by bringing the club’s future plans to a halt due to his lack of goals.
