Things are on the up for Hammers fans at the Tavern recently, the club are sitting in a respective 11th place.
At the beginning of the season much was to be expected of the London club who left their famous Boleyn ground for the London Stadium.
After crashing out of Europe, West Ham then found themselves precariously hanging above the drop zone.
Now they appear to be the club that many expected they would be at the start of the season.
A lot of this expectation is because of the brilliant performances from the past players – however, some players have added to the Hammers’ frustration in recent seasons by their disappointing efforts for the club.
Some of these players have actually gone on to do better for other clubs.
With that in mind let’s take a look at TWO players that have found form after leaving the Irons…..
Simone Zaza
Eyebrows were raised when Zaza joined West Ham on loan at the beginning of the season from Italian giants Juventus.
The transfer came after THAT catastrophic penalty miss against Germany, though despite this miss Zaza had a relatively good summer.
His time at West Ham was however a dismal one.
The Italian failed to score in any of his games for the Hammers and left in the January transfer window, although he was contracted to play for a season.
Zaza joined Valencia and has since then not looked back, helping Los Che to become more of the team that they used to be.
His biggest moment so far being a stunning goal to guide Valencia to a win against Real Madrid.
Hammers fans at the Tavern still wonder what could have been if the Italian hit form for the Irons.
Mohamed Diamé
Diamé signed for the Hammers back in 2012 following an impressive stint at Wigan Athletic.
Sam Allardyce needed Diamé to play as a holding midfielder in the Hammers 2012-`13 team, to hold together their defence after spending their previous campaign in the Championship.
Diamé and co. helped the Irons to a mid-table finish.
He proved crucial again in the next year though with Cheikhou Kouyate coming in the season after, Diamé found his chances limited and moved to Hull City.
When he moved to Hull Diamé’s position changed, he was shifted into a more attacking role and thrived as such, helping the Tigers gain promotion to the Premier League.
A move to Newcastle came at the beginning of the 2016/17 season and again the Senegalese international has been given a deeper role.
He looks set to guide the Toon Army up to the Premier League this season becoming a great asset to the club.
